Monarch Mountain Prepares for Significant Terrain Expansion

Monarch Mountain in Salida, Colorado, is gearing up for a substantial terrain expansion set to open for the 2025-26 ski season. The project will add 377 acres of new skiable terrain in the No Name Basin area, significantly increasing the resort's offerings for skiers and riders.

The expansion includes the addition of new intermediate and advanced trails, as well as gladed areas. A Skytrac fixed-grip triple chairlift, named Tomichi after a historic Colorado mining town, will service the new terrain. The base of No Name Basin will feature essential amenities including a warming hut, toilets, and a ski patrol building.

Monarch Mountain has been sharing regular updates on the progress of the expansion. Crews have been working on clearing snow and removing trees from the new terrain. The resort has also begun receiving parts for the new chairlift from Skytrac.

Recently, Monarch unveiled its updated trail map, showcasing the new runs and lift in No Name Basin. The map, created by VistaMap, was chosen for its flexibility, allowing easy updates in future seasons as the resort continues to develop the area and address beetle-kill trees.

The expansion will also include an uphill skiing route, catering to the growing popularity of ski touring. Monarch Mountain plans to keep skiers and riders informed about the expansion's progress as they work towards the planned opening in the 2025-26 season. This significant addition of terrain and facilities aims to enhance the skiing and riding experience at Monarch, offering more variety and challenges for visitors to the Colorado resort.
