Mt. Hutt Pushes Back Opening Day Due to Massive Snowfall

Mt. Hutt ski resort in New Zealand has announced a change to its opening date, moving it back to June 13. This decision comes in response to a significant snowfall forecast for the area. The adjustment aims to ensure optimal conditions for the start of the ski season, taking advantage of the substantial snow expected in the coming days.

Weather forecasts predict a substantial snowfall at Mt. Hutt, with projections ranging from 64 to 107 centimetres (25 to 42 inches) of fresh snow. A significant portion of this snowfall, approximately 20 to 30 centimetres (8 to 12 inches), is expected to accumulate on Wednesday, June 4. This unexpected bounty of snow has prompted the resort management to revise their opening plans, allowing time for proper preparation of the slopes and ensuring a safe environment for skiers and riders.

The decision to postpone the opening day reflects Mt. Hutt's commitment to providing the best possible experience for visitors. By allowing additional time for the snow to settle and for staff to prepare the slopes, the resort aims to offer excellent early-season conditions. This abundance of snow is a positive sign for the upcoming ski season in New Zealand, potentially setting the stage for a strong start to winter sports activities in the region. Skiers and riders planning to visit Mt. Hutt can look forward to well-prepared slopes and a solid snow base when the resort opens its doors on June 13.
