SWISS and SBB have added Grindelwald to their Air Rail network, effective immediately.
International travellers can now book a single ticket from their departure city through to Grindelwald in the Bernese Alps, with SWISS and SBB handling the full journey under one itinerary. The expansion is made possible through a new partnership with Jungfrau Railways, which operates the rail connection between Interlaken and Grindelwald. Tickets are available from 26 March via swiss.com or through any travel agency.
How it works
The Air Rail model removes the usual friction of coordinating a flight and an onward train separately. When booking a SWISS flight, passengers select their preferred rail station as the departure or arrival point. A single boarding pass covers the entire journey, and the rail ticket can be used flexibly - either from the day before departure or up to the day after arrival. SWISS also provides a guaranteed connection in the event of delays, which is the practical detail that makes the product genuinely useful rather than just convenient on paper.
For frequent flyers, Miles & More members earn miles and points on the Air Rail portion of the ticket. Passengers travelling in Business or First Class on SWISS also receive first-class rail travel on SBB.

Part of a growing network
Grindelwald follows Interlaken, which joined the Air Rail network in December 2022. The addition brings the total number of SWISS Air Rail destinations to 25 across Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. SWISS Chief Customer Officer Heike Birlenbach noted that a large share of visitors to the Jungfrau region come from the UK, the USA, and Asia - markets that SWISS serves via its long-haul network from Zurich and Geneva.

What it means for the trip
For skiers and travellers flying into Zurich, the practical upside is straightforward - one booking, one boarding pass, and a guaranteed connection rather than a separately managed train ticket that may or may not align with your flight schedule. The Bernese Oberland has always been accessible by train from Zurich, but the Air Rail integration simplifies the process and removes the risk of an uncovered missed connection.
Bookings are open now at swiss.com/airrail.
