First Peak At Big Sky New Tram Cars

Big Sky Resort, located in the heart of Montana, is set to elevate the ski experience with the introduction of new gondola cars for its iconic Lone Peak tram. This exciting update was recently showcased on the resort's Instagram, offering a first glimpse of the stunning new cars adorned with decals showcasing the panoramic views of Lone Mountain, Montana's highest scenic overlook. Let's delve into the details of this eagerly anticipated transformation.

The original 15-passenger Lone Peak Tram, which first opened in December 1995, provided access to the majestic Lone Peak. Renowned for its challenging terrain, often compared to the steep chutes and cliff bands of Mont-Blanc, France, descending from Big Sky's Lone Peak requires skill and expertise. Recognising the need for an upgrade, the resort embarked on a multi-year renovation project.

The star of the transformation is the introduction of new 75-passenger cars, as revealed in the Instagram post mentioned earlier. These spacious and modern gondolas will replace the smaller cars that were in use previously. Additionally, a remarkable "all-glass viewing platform with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks" is being constructed at the top terminal of Lone Peak, providing visitors with an unparalleled vantage point to appreciate the natural beauty of the area.

Winter 2023 marks the grand unveiling of the revamped Lone Peak Tram, where skiers and adventurers alike can experience the thrill of ascending to the mountain's pinnacle. However, it is important to note that Big Sky Resort has implemented changes to the ticketing system for the tram. Starting in 2023, visitors will be charged on a per-ride basis, with prices varying between $10 and $40+ depending on the day. These charges will be in addition to daily lift tickets and standard season passes.

Nancy Sheil, the assistant ski patrol director at Big Sky, explains that the resort plans to adjust the tram's capacity daily, taking into account factors such as weather conditions, snow quality, and terrain accessibility. This ensures the safety and enjoyment of all guests, as the resort optimizes the skiing experience based on these variables.

For those seeking unlimited access to the Lone Peak Tram without incurring per-ride charges, Big Sky Resort offers two options: the Gold + Ikon Pass priced at $2,700 and the Gold Pass priced at $2,400. Alternatively, skiers can opt for the Double Black Season Pass, which provides 25 free tram rides at a cost of $2,000.

The upgrades to the Lone Peak Tram and the introduction of the new gondola cars are set to elevate the skiing experience at Big Sky Resort to new heights. Visitors will not only be able to enjoy the thrill of the slopes but also marvel at the breathtaking views from the top of Lone Peak.
