Alta's Snowfall Hits New Heights in 2025 Season

Alta Ski Area in Utah has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 500 inches of total snowfall for the 2024-25 season. As of 2 April 2025, the resort recorded 505 inches, following a substantial 24-hour snowfall of over 30 centimetres. This achievement comes after a particularly snowy March, which saw more than 120 centimetres of fresh powder in just one week, significantly improving what had been a lacklustre start to the winter season in Utah's Wasatch Range.

Spring skiing has officially arrived at Alta. 🙌

The season's beginning was challenging, with below-average snow totals and unstable conditions that led to several avalanche-related incidents in the backcountry during December and January. However, the tide turned with consistent snowfall and cold temperatures in the following months. These conditions not only increased the snowpack but also improved its stability, bringing the central Wasatch area back to near-average seasonal totals.

Alta, renowned for its deep powder and dedicated skiing community, regularly ranks among North America's snowiest resorts. While a 500-inch season isn't unprecedented for Alta, the timing of this year's snowfall made reaching this benchmark particularly satisfying. February's dry spell had left many questioning whether the season would recover, but March's generous snowfall restored faith just as the prime spring skiing period approached.

With Alta set to close for the season on Sunday, 20 April, this recent snowfall offers a compelling reason for skiers and riders to plan a late-season visit. The current conditions promise excellent spring skiing opportunities. Those interested in up-to-date information on Alta's snow conditions and daily updates can check the resort's official website. As the season winds down, Alta's 500-inch milestone serves as a testament to the unpredictable nature of mountain weather and the rewards of patience for those who love skiing and riding in Utah's renowned powder.
