Homewood Mountain Resort Confirms Reopening Plans for 2025-26

Homewood Mountain Resort, located on the western shore of Lake Tahoe, has announced its plans to reopen for the 2025-26 winter season. This decision comes after the resort remained closed for the entire 2024-25 season due to financial issues and delays in implementing its Master Plan. While the resort will resume operations, the planned installation of a new eight-passenger gondola has been postponed.

The delay in the gondola project is attributed to permitting setbacks and missed deadlines with lift manufacturers. Despite this setback, Homewood's General Manager, Andy Buckley, has confirmed that the resort will open its doors to skiers and riders next winter. Season passes are expected to be available for purchase starting in mid-April.

Concerns about Homewood's future have been prevalent, especially since JMA Ventures partnered with luxury developer Discovery Land Company in 2022. This partnership led to speculation about the resort potentially becoming a private venue. However, recent developments have addressed these concerns. In January, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) approved key amendments to the resort's Master Plan, including a community access plan that ensures continued public use of the ski area.

The amended Master Plan also includes revisions to base area developments and architectural considerations. While the gondola construction has been delayed, TRPA's approval paves the way for future improvements. Long-term plans for Homewood include a new mid-mountain lodge, enhanced snowmaking capabilities, updated lifts, lodging facilities, workforce housing, and a 270-space parking garage for day visitors.

As Homewood prepares to welcome back skiers and riders next season, the resort aims to maintain its renowned lake views and relaxed atmosphere. The reopening marks a significant step forward for the resort, providing clarity after a period of uncertainty and reaffirming its commitment to serving both the local community and visitors to Lake Tahoe.
