Mammoth Mountain Will Stay Open Through at Least Memorial Day 2026
California's Mammoth Mountain has confirmed it will remain open for skiing and riding through at least Memorial Day 2026. The announcement, made via press release on February 26, 2026, won't come as a huge surprise to anyone who's followed this resort — Mammoth has a long history of running lifts deep into spring, and sometimes into June during strong snow years.
How the 2025/26 Season Has Stacked Up
It hasn't been a standout year by Mammoth's own benchmarks. The resort averages around 400 inches of snow per season, and at 243 inches season-to-date, they're sitting below that mark heading into March.
The season opened slightly above average but late — November brought 16 inches, a notable improvement on last October's 3 inches, though precipitation stayed quiet through much of that month. Things picked up in December (73 inches) and January (43 inches), before February delivered over seven feet of snow — 87 inches — which helped bulk out the season total considerably.
For context, the 2023/24 season logged 367 inches, and the 2022/23 season was the biggest on record at 715 inches. Last season's 286 inches still saw Mammoth run until June 15, so even modest snow years don't necessarily mean an early finish here.

What Helps Mammoth Hang On Longer Than Most
The summit sits at 11,053 feet, which keeps temperatures colder than most ski areas in the region. That elevation advantage means snow lingers longer and conditions stay more stable into late spring, even when the overall season total isn't particularly impressive. It doesn't need a monster year to justify a late close — it just needs to be Mammoth.

What the Transition to 'Second Season' Looks Like
From mid-April, operations shift into what Mammoth calls their Second Season. The Canyon and Eagle lodges close on April 19, 2026, with all lift access consolidating to the Main Lodge from that point. Operating hours will also adjust — likely moving to 7:30am to 2pm in late April or early May to catch morning snow before the sun turns it to slush.
The resort has flagged that specific dates and conditions will be updated as the season progresses, so it's worth keeping an eye on their communications if you're planning a late-season trip.
