Mt. Baker Ski Area Is Running Night Skiing for the First Time in Its History This Weekend
Mt. Baker Ski Area has been operating for decades without ever running night sessions — that changes this Friday and Saturday. The resort has announced its inaugural night skiing event for 13 and 14 March, centred around the White Salmon base area, and by most measures it looks like they've put some genuine thought into making it an actual occasion rather than just leaving a few lights on.
What's Actually Running After Dark
Chair 7 and the White Salmon Handle Tow will be illuminated for both evenings, giving riders access to a solid section of the mountain once the sun goes down. Alongside the lift operations, Mt. Baker is setting up live DJs and fire pits at the base, with extended lodge services running throughout both nights. So you're not just getting a few extra runs in — there's a reasonable setup around it.
For anyone already holding an Any Day or Mostly Midweek season pass, night skiing access is included automatically. If you've got a standard daily lift ticket for either of those dates, you're also covered for the extended hours. No additional purchase required, which is the right call for an inaugural event.
Staying Overnight
Overnight vehicle camping is available in the parking lot for anyone wanting to make a full weekend of it. Reservations are still open at time of writing, though the resort has flagged that spots are expected to go quickly. If you're seriously considering it, booking sooner rather than later is the obvious move.

Why This Is Worth Noting
Night skiing at established resorts isn't unusual — plenty of destinations across North America and Europe run it as standard. But for Mt. Baker specifically, this is genuinely new territory. The resort has built its reputation on serious snowfall, challenging terrain, and a no-frills mountain culture, so adding night operations with DJs and fire pits is a notable shift in atmosphere, even if it's just for one weekend.
Whether this becomes a regular fixture or stays a one-off will likely depend on how the weekend plays out. Either way, if you're in the Pacific Northwest and looking for something different to do this weekend, this is a fairly easy yes.
