    The Overview
    MF
    Michael Fulton
Melbourne-based skier and snowboarder with 50+ resorts across 5 continents. Specialises in Australian resorts and international resort comparisons.

Woodward Park City operates across 125 acres in Summit County with a vertical drop of 104 metres from a 1,981-metre base to a 2,085-metre summit. The facility opened in December 2019 as Utah's first integrated action sports destination, combining 10 ski runs with a 66,000-square-foot indoor training hub. Annual snowfall averages 3.81 metres at the resort's elevation just below Parley's Summit. The 2025-26 season runs from 22 November through 4 April.

Terrain divides into 25 per cent beginner, 35 per cent intermediate, 35 per cent advanced, and 5 per cent expert across 60 skiable acres. Main Line delivers the signature top-to-bottom slopestyle course with progressive jump lines scaled by skill level. Red's Backyard offers small and medium jib features for developing rail skills. The Start Park uses gentle contours and banked turns specifically designed for first-timers learning proper technique and control.

The mountain experience centres on progression rather than vertical skiing, with lift-accessed terrain parks running under lights until 7 p.m. most days. The 22-foot halfpipe stands as Utah's only superpipe of that size. Crowds remain manageable compared to neighbouring Park City Mountain and Deer Valley resorts. Two on-mountain dining options include The Grind Cafe for sit-down meals and The Hive Cafeteria for quick service.

Woodward Park City operates independently without multi-resort pass affiliations, offering day tickets from $59 to $119 and an all-access monthly membership at $199. The resort attracts progression-focused skiers and snowboarders who value park features over mileage. The 1,200-foot tubing lanes rank as Utah's longest. The facility serves as official training centre for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team and hosts events including Party in the Peace Park each February and the Uninvited Invitational women's snowboarding competition in April.

When to visit Woodward Park City

The 2025-26 winter season opened 22 November 2025 and runs through 4 April 2026, providing a 133-day operating window. Woodward typically opens earlier than traditional ski resorts due to aggressive snowmaking across the compact terrain. The resort operates 365 days annually with summer mountain biking replacing winter skiing. Night skiing extends operating hours until 7 p.m. on most winter days with illuminated terrain parks and groomed runs.

Snowfall averages 3.81 metres annually at the resort's 1,981 to 2,085-metre elevation band near Parley's Summit. The 2025-26 season recorded 155 centimetres total through mid-May with a 94-centimetre base depth. Snowmaking coverage blankets the entire ski area, ensuring reliable conditions despite the relatively modest natural accumulation compared to higher Wasatch resorts. The east-facing aspect receives morning sun, softening snow early whilst maintaining coverage through spring.

December through February delivers peak powder conditions with coldest temperatures and most consistent natural snowfall. January averages the deepest base depths. March and April offer spring skiing with longer daylight hours and softer snow, though the season typically closes by early April. Weekdays see lighter crowds than weekends. The resort attracts local Park City and Salt Lake City residents for after-work sessions under lights.

Party in the Peace Park on 6 February showcases freestyle progression at Danny Davis's signature terrain park with cash prizes for creative tricks. The Uninvited Invitational women's snowboarding event runs 9-12 April with a $60,000 prize purse and competitors from 16 countries. Weekend camps and three-day clinics operate throughout winter. Summer operations transition in May with lift-served mountain biking continuing through October. The indoor hub never closes, offering year-round trampoline and skatepark access.

    Getting there

Getting to Woodward Park City, and where to stay

Woodward Park City sits in Summit County's Snyderville Basin at 2,170 metres elevation along Interstate 80 near Parley's Summit, the highest point on I-80 in Utah. The resort occupies a hillside two miles east of the Parley's Summit pass between Salt Lake Valley and Park City. Jeremy Ranch neighbourhood lies immediately west via Kilby Road, which provides the sole vehicle access from Quarry Village. The Wasatch Mountains rise to the south whilst the property overlooks I-80's eastbound descent into Park City's basin.

Park City's historic Main Street sits 17 miles and 20 minutes southeast. Salt Lake City centre lies 25 miles west with a 35-40 minute drive under normal conditions. The larger Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort operate within 10 miles. Utah Olympic Park stands five minutes east. Kimball Junction shopping district at the I-80 and Highway 224 interchange provides nearest services including restaurants, petrol stations, and grocery stores within five minutes.

Interstate 80 provides the only practical road access, with Exit 140 at Parley's Summit leading directly to Kilby Road and the resort entrance. The highway climbs 2,400 feet from Salt Lake Valley through Parley's Canyon, a steep grade requiring caution during winter storms. Summit County operates High Valley Transit Route 101 with buses every 30 minutes from Ecker Hill Park & Ride, reaching Woodward in six minutes. Ample parking including electric vehicle charging stations accommodates drive-up visitors.

Salt Lake City International Airport lies 43 kilometres west with typical transfer times of 35-45 minutes in summer, extending to 90 minutes during winter snowstorms. The airport serves as one of North America's closest major hubs to skiing. No direct rail service reaches Park City, though Utah Transit Authority buses connect to the regional network. Private shuttle services, taxis, and rideshare apps operate airport transfers. The resort's location between downtown Salt Lake City and Park City proper makes it accessible for both local residents and destination visitors.

Maverick Mountain's Only Chairlift Destroyed as Sand Creek Fire Tears Through Montana Ski Area

Maverick Mountain's Only Chairlift Destroyed as Sand Creek Fire Tears Through Montana Ski Area

Firefighters saved every base building at Maverick Mountain, Montana, but the resort's sole chairlift didn't survive the Sand Creek Fire. Owners Erik and Kristi Borge say the lift is "most likely" out for the 2026/27 season after flames tore through the mountain on August 8. The wildfire has since grown past 27,700 acres with zero percent containment. It's a gutting result for the tiny, one-lift operation near Dillon - though the lodge, groomers and equipment all made it through untouched.

Spain Moves to Ban Smoking at Ski Resorts Under New Tobacco Law

Spain Moves to Ban Smoking at Ski Resorts Under New Tobacco Law

Spain's government has approved a draft tobacco law that would ban smoking across a wide range of outdoor spaces, including sports venues - a category Spanish winter sports media expect to cover ski resorts, potentially extending to slopes and lifts themselves. The rules would also apply to e-cigarettes and vaping devices, even nicotine-free ones. The bill still has to clear the Spanish parliament before any ban, signage, or fines can take effect.

South Tyrol Approves New 16-Person Ciampinoi Gondola in Val Gardena

South Tyrol has approved a full rebuild of the Ciampinoi cable car in Selva di Val Gardena, replacing the current 12-person gondola with a 16-person cabin and a new mountain-station restaurant. Capacity is capped at 3,200 people an hour rather than the 3,600 the operator wanted, and 250,000 euros must go toward compensatory measures. No construction or opening date has been set, though the upgrade is partly aimed at clearing bottlenecks before the 2031 Alpine Ski World Championships.

Resort Spotlight: Hoshino Tomamu - Corporate Japan's Mountain Playground Revisited

Hoshino Tomamu is the ski resort equivalent of a conference hotel that happens to have excellent powder. Built for corporate retreats and package tourists, it offers genuine Hokkaido snow on surprisingly limited terrain - 29 runs spread across 585 vertical metres.

La Thuile's New Cable Car Replaces Two Ageing Chairlifts

La Thuile is spending 38.7 million US dollars on a new 10-person cable car linking Les Suches to Chaz Dura, replacing the La Combe and Chaz Dura chairlifts after nearly forty years of service. Built by Leitner, the new cable car runs 1,950 metres to a top station at 2,576 metres, carrying up to 3,000 people an hour with a six-minute ride. It also improves the connection to La Rosiere in France via the Petit-Saint-Bernard Pass, and is on track to open for the 2026/27 season.

The Remarkables Adds Scarpa Bowl to Its Inbounds Terrain

The Remarkables is adding new inbounds terrain for winter, bringing the Scarpa Bowl - known locally as the Toilet Bowl - into its lift-accessed network after years as backcountry-only ground. The roughly 500 metre run is reached by bootpacking from the top of the Sugar Bowl chairlift, with a shuttle picking skiers up from the road at the bottom. It's a smaller, faster addition than the resort's planned Doolans expansion, though the new terrain hasn't opened yet due to a lack of snow this season.

Ski Portillo Cut Off After Storm Dumps More Than 4.5 Metres of Snow

Ski Portillo remains isolated after an extended storm buried the Chilean resort under more than 4.5 metres of snow, with both ground and air access suspended since Tuesday while crews monitor avalanche hazards and worsening weather. Resort officials say further snowfall is expected in the coming days and haven't set a timeline for reopening the mountain road. Once access resumes, the scale of the snowpack could set up a strong season at one of the Southern Hemisphere's most historic ski resorts.
